If you are concerned about crime in your community, you may want to contact a crime prevention program. Crime prevention programs may include Block Watch programs, anti-drug programs, graffiti hotlines, burglar alarm companies and services, missing children resources, information and classes on personal safety and education about what to do if you witness a crime. Crime prevention programs may help you to help make your neighborhood, home and work safer. Crime prevention programs may be able to offer training and information about preventing crime in your business, neighborhood, home, school, or city. If you want to protect yourself and others from crime, you may want to get help from or volunteer at a crime prevention program in your city.
Check out criminology reports in your area. Then visit with each organization's contact person to learn more about how you can help in your community. Many crime prevention programs are sponsored by local police and justice departments, but many are started in grassroots efforts by local community members. Find out who you need to speak with and set up a meeting. Research the local, national or international organization's background thoroughly, making sure its goals gel with yours, and that it offers funding for crime reduction projects. Find out any criminology statistics on how that particular crime prevention program or organization has helped to reduce crime and violence, restore order, provide a defense for kids, and increase security in your area. Ask what types of programs, fundraisers, school events and awareness drives are held in your community, aimed at reducing organized crime and violence. Find a place where you would feel most comfortable helping out in and choose an area of focus. If you're on board with the program's initiatives, it's probably a good fit. If you have children in the school system, consult with your child's principal on ways you can bring organized crime prevention safety programs and awareness to the classroom to promote safety, protection and security, thereby reducing crime. Keep in mind that crime prevention programs may help reduce fear in the public eye by lowering the high crime rate, firearms use, identity theft, drug trafficking, organized crime, violent crimes, social crimes, discrimination, civil rights abuses, financial crimes, drugs, property violations, murder and killing, gang activity, shooting, and physical abuse. The main goal of crime prevention programs is to help protect children and their families, keeping neighborhoods safe for future generations.
